Promoting Resilience in Higher Education
On 25th July the Staying BRiTE team hosted a Forum at Murdoch University, Perth, WA. Participants included representatives from the 5 collaborating universities, Western Australian universities, Education Department of WA, Catholic Education Office of WA, and school principals and teachers. The aim of the Forum was to present our work showcasing the different approaches to promoting resilience in teacher education and to engage participants in discussion around key questions:
- Why is teacher resilience still an issue? What questions should we be asking?
- How might embedding resilience in curriculum, policy and school-university partnerships lead to innovation and transformation in the profession?
- What are the implications? What needs to happen next?
We also had the pleasure of insights from our international guest, Professor Qing Gu (University of Nottingham), who visited for that week.
The Forum generated much interest in our work and has sparked new connections with schools and other WA universities. We have a real hub of colleagues passionate about this issue and keen to contribute into the future. Thanks to all participants who shared their thinking and helped generate ideas about where to from here!
